Ira Davenport Re-Accredited by Joint Commission

BATH, NY –By demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission‘s national standards for healthcare quality and safety, Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital has earned full re-accreditation from the Joint Commission, including its Gold Seal of Approval™. An independent, not-for-profit organization, The Joint Commission is the nation's oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care.
“We sought accreditation for our organization because we want to demonstrate our commitment to patients’ safety and quality care,” said James B. Watson, CEO. “We view obtaining Joint Commission accreditation as another step toward achieving excellence.”
The Joint Commission conducted an unannounced, on-site evaluation of Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital on September 15-18, 2009. The accreditation award recognizes the organization’s dedication to complying with the Joint Commission’s state-of-the-art standards on a continuous basis.
“We received excellent feedback on the competence, professionalism, and dedication displayed by our staff, and for our high quality customer service,” Watson added.  “Our entire staff is responsible for the success of this survey.”
The Joint Commission evaluates and accredits more than 15,000 healthcare organizations and programs in the United States, including more than 8,000 hospitals and home care organizations, and more than 6,800 other health care organizations that provide long term care, assisted living, behavioral health care, laboratory and ambulatory care services. The Joint Commission also accredits health plans, integrated delivery networks, and other managed care entities. In addition, The Joint Commission provides certification of disease-specific care programs, primary stroke centers, and healthcare staffing services.
The Davenport & Taylor organization, founded in 1910, is comprised of a 38-bed acute care hospital, a 120-bed skilled nursing facility, and a full complement of ancillary services. It is located in the Finger Lakes region of New York State between the villages of Bath and Hammondsport.
